Big Dave, Vincent and Alejandro wanted to start a band, but in 2014, Big Dave spent February in a coma. While he clung to life he was plagued by nightmares so vivid they felt like memories. Upon waking, everyone asked what he experienced, but he only told Alejandro and Vincent the truth: time travel, deals with devils, vigilante justice, escape, and survival. In reply, Ale said, "That sounds like a great record.”

Real story

Donkey Island Penitentiary is the sound of garage, punk and science fiction, filtered through the blues, while Big Dave growls about his nightmares. Big Dave, Alejandro and Vincent were wrongfully convicted of crimes they definitely committed, promptly escaped, and now hide out in the Los Angeles Underground as a harmonica driven rock & roll band. A record of their escape, their previous crimes, and Big Dave’s hallucinations while doing time in the hole has been discovered. They’ve crafted their songs in secret. Now is the time for their escape! Now is the time for…

Escape from... (ep)

"I cannot forget "Escape from D.I.P." which makes me picture a prison break, literally--or maybe I'm on my horse trying to cross the desert--you got to listen for yourself."
-Marvin Vasquez - Threat of Joy

Some music is made for dancing in wild abandon and 'Shoot You Down' you down is a case in point."
-Tim Whale, Emerging Indie Bands

"It’s old school and dramatic, the classic spaghetti-western soundtrack as always, perfectly produced and perfectly delivered. "
-Bethany Jinks, Musically Fresh

Exile on 4th Street (EP)

"The music as a whole is unique... The songs become hypnotic, sci-fi and weird, but then the melodies and subtleties bring it all back to very cool"
- Pierce Brochetti, Music Connection Magazine

"Their Punk and Blues cross-over with it’s Latin roots, tells tales of vigilante justice, deals with the devil and time travel and is nothing short of fantastic and If I’m honest, I’m a little bit in love with it."
- Bethany Jinks, Musically Fresh

"Our personal favorite is "Going Down" on Track 5, a slower moving song that will yank at your heart while you are tapping your toes and rolling to its classical blues rock beat."
- Coming Up Music Magazine
