Rock & Roll Coma Dreams
DONKEY ISLAND PENITENTIARY survived the pandemic the only way they know how; by crafting songs in secret. THE EXPERIMENTS and PRISONERS OF EARTH re-release on June 4, 2023, in partnership with Ditto Music!
This band of brothers from Los Angeles, California came to life in 2014 after vocalist Big Dave Perea nearly died in a month long coma. With his brother, Vincent Perea, on drums and their compadre, Alejandro Speranza, on guitar, they made Rock & Roll out of Big Dave's coma dreams; becoming unstuck in time and space, confronting your own monsters, defending the innocent, escaping confinement, and cheating death itself. Donkey Island Penitentiary follows up their self titled debut LP of harmonica driven rock & roll with their hardest hitting material yet, featuring the thunderous Carlos Costa on bass! Their music has been heard on KLOS FM Los Angeles, Rodney on the Rock on SiriusXM and around the world.

PRESS QUOTES
“Donkey Island Penitentiary has intricately crafted this self-titled full-length in a manner that accurately allows them to bare all and I challenge you to not having a good time listening to it."
-Matthew Speer, Ear Nutrition
“Some music is made for dancing in wild abandon and 'Shoot You Down' you down is a case in point."
-Tim Whale, Emerging Indie Bands
"It’s old school and dramatic, the classic spaghetti-western soundtrack as always, perfectly produced and perfectly delivered. "
-Bethany Jinks, Musically Fresh
"The music as a whole is unique... The songs become hypnotic, sci-fi and weird, but then the melodies and subtleties bring it all back to very cool"
- Pierce Brochetti, Music Connection Magazine
"Their Punk and Blues cross-over with it’s Latin roots, tells tales of vigilante justice, deals with the devil and time travel and is nothing short of fantastic and If I’m honest, I’m a little bit in love with it."
- Bethany Jinks, Musically Fresh
"Our personal favorite is "Going Down" , a slower moving song that will yank at your heart while you are tapping your toes and rolling to its classical blues rock beat."
- Coming Up Music Magazine
